Woman to stand trial for pants.

Aren't there, like, international laws against this kind of human rights abuse?

Though, this is not surprising.

there's not an amendment on the floor yet, but they're working on it.

19 Democrats

...have sent a letter to Pelosi. Here it is:

Dear Honorable Pelosi:

As the debate on health care reform continues and legislation is produced, it is imperative that the issue of abortion not be overlooked. Plans to mandate coverage for abortions, either directly or indirectly is unacceptable.

We believe in a culture that supports and respects the right to life and is dedicated to the protection and preservation of families. Therefore, we cannot support any health care reform proposal unless it explicitly excludes abortion from the scope of any government-defined or subsidized health insurance plan. We believe that a government-defined or subsidized health insurance plan, should not be used to fund abortion.

Furthermore, we want to ensure that the Health Benefits Advisory Committee cannot recommend abortion services be included under covered benefits or as part of a benefits package. Without an explicit exclusion, abortion could be included in a government subsidized health care plan under general health care. The health care reform package produced by Congress will be landmark, and with legislation as important as this, abortion must be addressed clearly in the bill text.

Furthermore, funding restrictions save lives by reducing the number of abortions. The Guttmacher Policy Review, a leading pro-choice research organization noted "that about one third of women who would have had an abortion if support were available carried their pregnancies to term when the abortion fund was unavailable."

Thank you for taking the time to consider our request. By ensuring that abortions are not funded through any health care reform package, we will take this controversial issue off the table so that Congress can focus on crafting a broadly-supported health care reform bill.

Respectfully yours,

Reps. Dan Boren (D-OK); Bart Stupak (D-MI); Colin Peterson (D-MN); Tim Holden (D-PA); Travis Childers (D-MS); Lincoln Davis (D-TN); Heath Shuler (D-NC) Solomon Ortiz (D-TX); Mike McIntyre (D-NC); Jerry Costello (D-IL); Gene Taylor (D-MS); James Oberstar (D-MN); Bobby Bright (D-AL); Steve Driehaus (D-OH); Marcy Kaptur (D-OH); Charlie Melancon (D-LA); John Murtha (D-PA); Paul Kanjorski (D-PA); and Kathleen Dahlkemper (D-PA).

Actually, I think such an amendment has already been proposed. Does anyone know what it's called or who proposed it?

Example

Here's the email I sent my senators:

I just want to tell you right off the bat that I am a huge proponent of socializzed medicine. Frankly, Obama's plan doesn't go far enough. In addition to rising costs making it an economic imperrative, there is also a signifficant moral component. Without this plan, millions of Americans will die preventable deaths due to corporate greed.

This is where the problem comes. The current health care plan (H.R. 3200) mandates taxpayer funding for abortion. It also strips conceince protection and forces pro-life medical providers to choose between their consciences and their jobs.

If Obama really wants to stay true to his rhetoric, this is not the way to do it. This is not common ground and it is not reducing abortions.

In fact, it has been shown that abortions increase 25% when funded by taxpayer dollars. This increase in the loss of innocent laws is directly counterproductive to the purpose of healthcare.

I'm not asking you to oppose universal healthcare. I'm just saying that you should oppose or ammend this bill. Please. Lives are on the line.

Amend it!

I just wanted to tell you all to contact your representatives in favor of the amendment removing elective abortions from the health care bill.

"People-seeds"

Libertarians for Life have a great article debunking Thomson's violinist argument. I will now tackle her much weaker "People Seeds" argument:

Again, suppose it were like this: people-seeds drift about in the air like pollen, and if you open your windows, one may drift in and take root in your carpets or upholstery. You don’t want children, so you fix up your windows with fine mesh screens, the very best you can buy. As can happen, however, and on very, very rare occasions does happen, one of the screens is defective; and a seed drifts in and takes root.

The analogy is very laughable, but let's consider it at face value. You open the window, well aware of the risk. Then, the "people-seeds" take root.

Here comes the problem. Thomson says you would then have the right to remove them from your home. She made the same mistake in the violinist argument; she confuses negative rights with positive rights. Following this analogy, all that could be done is induced labor. For an argument against induced labor before viability, see the boat analogy.

So, to imporve the analogy, let's say that the people seeds plant, and one comes up to you asking for food. You then proceed to poison her, or dismember her, or burn her, or... you get the point. You would then rightfully be charged with murder.

"Slut-punishing" cont.

I feel I should expand upon Post 59. Pregnancy is not a punishment. It doesn't even happen randomly.

When a woman gets pregnant, just like anyone else in any other situation, she may react the situation in any way that does not violate someone else's rights.

I have been told that banning abortion somehow harms women, banning rape and murder doesn't hurt people, and that it should therefore be legal. But what that basically says is, regardless of its morality, homicide should be permitted if it allows one to excape an inconvenience or a responsibility.

Abolition harmed plantation owners. Does that make slavery okay, regardless of its morality?

Ireland FTL

At first, I was outraged. Europe has shown a lack of testicular fortitude when it comes to religion, such as making polygamy legal (but only for Muslim males!). But, really, you're delusional if you think this makes America better. Our constitution just forces us to pick the installment plan.

At least Ireland just came out and made it illegal to offend religious people.

Sonia Sotomayor Calls Abortion: "Woman's Right to Terminate Her Pregnancy"

By now, you know how ****ing sick I am of all these euphemisms. It's also vague as ****; I'm all for the described right. Wanna know how to excercize it nonviolently? It's called "birth".

You know what? How about I excersize my "right" to "terminate" YOUR LIFE, Sotomayor. See how much you like THAT!

Reply Needed

July 13, 2009

Dear ______,

What a month we have ahead of us!

Over the course of the next few weeks, the Obama Administration and the pro-abortion leaders in Congress are aggressively working to push their extreme abortion agenda on our country.

Please respond to this call to protect unborn lives immediately by clicking here to donate to our efforts to combat this aggressive abortion agenda. We need your help now more than ever.

Later this week the House will consider a bill that will allow your tax dollars to pay for abortions in the District of Columbia. D.C’s 37% abortion rate is already one of the highest in the country, particularly among the African-American and the poor populations; you know, the populations that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg told the New York Times Americans “don’t want too many of.”

The Susan B. Anthony List has been on the front lines trying to keep your hard-earned tax dollars from paying for the murder of the unborn here in our nation’s capital. In addition to mobilizing thousands of activists, like you, to contact their representatives, we have worked closely with the House Pro-Life Women’s Caucus to build opposition on the floor of the House and in the media.

We have already sent thousands of letters to Congress opposing funding for abortions in D.C., please donate today to help us continue the fight to protect the unborn here, and across the nation.

Next President Obama and his pro-abortion friends in Congress are pushing for massive "health care reform" bills that would vastly expand access to abortion on-demand, override state abortion laws, and establish federal funding of abortion.

Forcing the American people to pay for abortion on-demand is not health care!

Yet leading pro-abortion advocates seem to think it is. Just take a look at what some of the pro-abortion leaders have to say about health care and abortion:

“[I]n my mind reproductive care is essential care, basic care so it is at the center, the heart of the plan that I propose…insurers are going to have to abide by the same rules in terms of providing comprehensive care, including reproductive care…that’s going to be absolutely vital.”

-President Barack Obama

Reproductive health includes access to abortion…We are now an Administration that will protect the rights of women, including their rights to reproductive health care.”

-Secretary Hillary Clinton

“Let there be no mistake, basic healthcare includes abortion services…we must act now to make sure women get a fair shake in the final healthcare reform bill."

-Rev. Carlton Veazey, Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice

If these attempts at “health care” reform pass, taxpayers like you and me will be paying for almost every one of the hundreds of thousands abortions performed every year.

We must not allow any health care reform efforts to be hijacked by the pro-abortion agenda.

Please donate now to the Susan B. Anthony List to help us fight an abortion mandate in health care reform. With public opinion strongly opposed to taxpayer-funded abortions we will continue to mobilize Members of Congress and activists around the country to oppose abortion in health care reform!

Please forward this message to as many friends and family and urge them to act now to protect the unborn boys and girls and the consciences of millions of pro-life Americans who don’t want to see their tax dollars used to pay for abortions.

Another Justice Ginsburg?

Oppose Sotomayor

July 9, 2009

Dear [real name removed],

A few days ago, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg gave a very frank interview to the New York Times in which she stated that,“frankly I had thought that at the time Roe was decided, there was concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we don’t want to have too many of.”

In other words, Justice Ginsburg felt the sanctioning of government-funded abortion was appropriate as a population-control measure. It’s appalling to realize that these comments aren’t from a eugenicist like Margaret Sanger, but from a sittingSupreme Court Justice.

Her comments paint a picture of the real impact the U.S. Supreme Court has on the lives of the most innocent among us, whether that be the unborn or other “undesirables” in society.

On Monday, the U.S. Senate will begin the confirmation process for President Obama’s nominee to the Supreme Court, Judge Sonia Sotomayor.

Given what we know about Sonia Sotomayor’s own judicial philosophy, including her support of policymaking from the bench, we must oppose her appointment to the United States Supreme Court.

Click here to contact your Senators today and tell them to oppose Judge Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court.

Sonia Sotomayor’s record of support for judicial activism and her work for the pro-abortion Puerto Rican Legal Defense Fund offer little comfort that she will be a friend to the unborn on the Supreme Court.

While Sotomayor served as a board member of the Puerto Rican Legal Defense Fund, the group filed six briefs with the court advocating for unmitigated abortion on-demand. Multiple accounts tell us that the board closely monitored the fund’s work, and that Sotomayor was “an involved and ardent supporter of their various legal efforts.” (New York Times, May 28, 2009)

This suggests a troubling record of disregard for the rights of the unborn, which Judge Sotomayor has admittedly not thought about.

Please stand up for the unborn boys and girls today and tell your Senator to oppose Judge Sotomayor’s nomination.

Thank you for your continued defense of the unborn boys and girls!

What if what they really want is for us to herd children into stadiums like we're doing? And put soldiers on the street and - and have Americans looking over their shoulders? URGENT: Restore DC Abortion Funding Ban!

Saving Lives in the Capital

July 6, 2009
Dear subscriber,

Congress is on track to support President Obama’s decision to fund abortion with your tax dollars in the District of Columbia. Legislation is coming down the pike that weakens the Dornan amendment, a longstanding policy to restrict tax-funded abortions in our nation’s capital.

Tomorrow evening the House Appropriations Committee will have an opportunity to change this decision. Representatives Todd Tiahrt (R-KS) and Lincoln Davis (D-TN) will offer a bipartisan amendment to restore the ban on taxpayer funded abortions in the District of Columbia.

Please click here to contact key Members of the House Appropriations Committee and tell them to support the Tiahrt/Davis Amendment!

Why does this matter? Put simply, laws save lives. When the government isn’t subsidizing abortion on demand, we see fewer abortions.

Even the other side recognizes this. The Alan Guttmacher Institute, the research arm of Planned Parenthood, routinely issues reports showing that when public funding is not available, we see 30% fewer abortions among women who are eligible for Medicaid. That means at least 30% of babies whose mothers receive government subsidized health care survive because of abortion funding restrictions like the Dornan Amendment.

This is why it is so important that you act now to support this amendment. We can still save the lives of precious unborn children in the District of Columbia.

Click here now and contact these important Members of the Appropriations Committee and tell them pro-life laws like the Tiahrt/Davis Amendment save lives!

I urge you to consider forwarding this e-mail to as many friends and family members you can. We only have little more than 24 hours to send this urgent pro-life message to Congress.

Thank you all that you do for the unborn boys and girls!

SPLASH needs volunteers

The Society for Pro-Life Agnostics and Secular Humanists currently is only a Facebook page. However, ockraz wants...

This is what I'd like to see in the future:
-first, the stand alone webpage with info about being prolife as a secular position and media bias as well as updates on relevant news and 'actions' like writing to your representative when appropriate
-an FB pg with some actual traffic
-a discussion board and a blog
-letting all the atheist forums know that we're out there so as not to miss anyone
-polls of the members (to counter arguments such as: pro-lifers support the death penalty and oppose condoms)
-a core group that goes on liberal leaning blogs to make their presence known and which can help one another not to get "shouted down" by pro-choicers
-members writing essays or even editorials to papers
-web based campaigns which would include illustrations and even online videos targeting people who would typically view pro-lifers as fundamentalist nutjobs (one possibility might be an anti-domestic violence campaign that included abortion as another form of domestic violence)

I'll do what I can, but I'm not that good at web design, and I'm having some technical difficulties and technological restrictions.

Today

Given the date, you're probably expecting me to say something about what was said about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happinefs.

However, something important has come up.

Obama clarified that he supports concience protections, and removed Bush's protections because they were hasty last-minute shove-throughs.

Lets hope the repeal or the Dornan amendment, if it passes, has a similar explanation.

Abortion is Not Health Care

July 1, 2009

Dear subscruer,

I need you to act now to stop the biggest attempt to force taxpayer funded abortion on-demand on the American people.

Please write your Representatives today and tell them to respect your conscience and explicitly prohibit taxpayer-funded abortion as a part of health care reform!

All Pro-Life Americans must act today to save the lives of thousands of unborn boys and girls who will fall prey to abortions courtesy of our pro-abortion Congress and President. Lives that will be lost using your very own hard-earned tax dollars.

President Obama has clearly stated that he supports taxpayer-funded abortions as part of his health care reform. In his speech to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund in July of 2008, President Obama stated that in his mind "reproductive care is essential care, basic care, so it is at the center, the heart of the [health care] plan that I propose." When asked for clarification later, an Obama spokesman said that “reproductive care included abortion."

In the current House health care reform bill, Nancy Pelosi and her pro-abortion friends have left the door open for Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and her unelected pro-abortion bureaucrats to define abortion as part of “reproductive care,” just as Hillary Clinton has already done at the State Department. We cannot allow pro-abortion legislators to leave this door open.

Click here to tell your Representatives to explicitly ban taxpayer-funding of abortion as part of health care reform. Tell them you don't want your tax dollars to pay for abortions!

And make sure you forward this e-mail to all your friends and family. We need to make sure every voice is heard in this fight.

Thank you for all you do in the fight to protect unborn boys and girls.
